I woke up Thursday morning after a bad night's sleep during a particularly troublesome string of days at work. My coffee was placed in front of me, and I decided I would watch a replay of the Pagan Phoenix South West conference from the previous weekend. Damn the Bard gave a wonderful talk about "The Green Grimoire" and as he closed, he sang the song "Under The Trees". A beautiful song that I had never heard before. The lyrics moved me: When we are born, we are told, You're part of a great machine, no chance of parole, But life is a miracle, this I know so well, It's time to turn the key, of my prison cell. The decision was made, we would go to the Bluebell Woods. Experience life and be within nature. The day came and the weather was what I might call "grisly" not that it mattered to me very much. You seem to experience things much more when the weather is a little against you. So we wrapped up, waterproofed and warm and off we went. We walked along the path, to the places where fewer people ventured, and found a small worn out bench and sat quietly listening. Listening to the wind in the trees, the squeaking of bark against bark, the rustling of a few leaves still hanging on since winter, the birds singing, and the far away voices of other people enjoying nature. It felt like coming come after a long journey, a feeling of peace after the chaos, a grounding. Before we left I took a picture of the tree canopy over head. This served as an inspiration of a new card I wanted to make, perhaps to send to a friend in turmoil to inspire them to spend time quietly in a place that would in turn given them some peace in this crazy world.
